Speaking of sofas

Two posts in a row about sofas - clearly I have living rooms on my mind. Lately I've noticed that I am really drawn to living rooms that have two sofas. Unfortunately our living room isn't big enough to accomodate that layout but doesn't it seem like such a luxury to have that sort of space?

They are often shown back to back in design mags but I don't think I have ever seen this layout in a "real" person's home . It would be great for entertaining since it automatically breaks a big space up into two smaller spaces - one for TV, one for conversation, reading, etc.

Another layout for two sofas (and probably my favorite!) is to have them facing each other.

What is your take on two sofas? Do you have space for either of these layouts in your home?

I've tried the back to back sofa arrangement but decided against it; in our room it felt too "hotel lobby". I was still able to break the room into two zones (tv and conversation) by replacing the one sofa with a large credenza, and of course that combo sits in the center of the space. Believe it or not, each zone also has an additional sofa for a total of 3 in the space; I do want to replace one sofa with a pair of chairs so it feels more open and flexible, but thats a somewhat low priority on the budget right now. Just working with what I've got like a lot of folks are :)

I am also on the search for a decent sofa. We've spent nearly 3 years without one (our house is so small it was either dining table or sofa- I went for dining table). But we just bought a bigger house and we can actually fit one! Just barely, as it's still a tiny house. But I love the searching and planning part of it- everything is a possibility!
Really just wanted to say I really enjoy your design and have been very inspired by it. Also, don't go for two sofas facing away from each other- it just doesn't feel comfortable. It looks like something staged in a magazine to me. Two facing each other is lovely. Can't wait to see what happens.

I love the 2 sofa plan, but unfortunately my LR is too small to accomodate them face to face or back to back.
