I have never owned a slipcovered sofa and I am not sure that I ever will . I think all of the examples above look great but whenever I see slipcovered sofas in person they usually look like a wrinkled mess ! I know they have a reputation for being so practical since you can wash them, but I'm not convinced . Do you have to iron them to get them to look that neat and tailored ? If so, that doesn't sound very practical to me . I actually think a wrinkled, sagging slipcover bothers me more than a small stain on a tailored sofa ever would . And putting covers back on cushions is just not fun . What do you think ? Do you or would you own a slipcovered sofa ? Are they practical and easy or are you constantly tugging them back in to place and smoothing out the wrinkles ?

I LOVE white sofas-- and after living with our black dog and two boys for the last five years, my sofa is a wreck. I'm going to have it slipcovered as a first option, and see how that holds up. The tailored, non-linen slips I've seen are fantastic, and there is so much good fabric to choose from these days that is stain and wrinkle resistant (like Sunbrella) that for me, it's worth the risk of ending up with a frumpy sofa, since white has about a 2 year shelf life in my house, anyway:-)
Not sure about a slipcovered sofa, I agree that it would always look messy, although in my house with a husband, dog and toddler, who would notice?! I am definitely looking to slipcover a wing chair though, maybe a pair, so I'll see how that works out!
I have had a great experience with slipcovers. I have a beach house that is a vacation rental property. I even have a _white_ slip-covered sofa! I'll post the website below so you can check out some pics. The striped chairs and sofa in the great room are slip-covered, and the white sofa in the downstairs bedroom/TV room. I wash them every 3-4 months. I pre-treat them with oxy-clean and spots usually disappear. If not, I will wash a second time. The white sofa can be washed with bleach--so very practical in a way!

Thanks for a great place to see your amazing projects and decorating style. Love it!
I have them. I will admit they are not easy, but if you want white then it is the only way to go. Do I have to iron them? The skirt...yes I do.
We are moving to our new home in coastal Carolina in July. I have always wanted white furniture and I am going for it! I am purchasing two white slip covered couches for our den, white slip covered chairs for the formal dining room as well as slip covering two wing back chairs in white. White makes me happy, it can be washed, I can purchase a new slip cover if need be for half the cost of reupholstering, and I can change their look with the seasons with pillows, throws etc. I am going casual, if they are a bit wrinkled I don't mind breaking out the iron .
